Important Announcements for Spring 2009:

There are some very important changes to better accommodate our students and parents.

Changes to Belt Testing:

First, we have changed the Belt Testing times for Saturday.

We will be having the Little Tigers and Juniors’ sparring on Saturdays so that the parents can observe their children performing in sparring and for the juniors – sparring and grappling as well as the board break.

The Belt Testing on Saturdays will now start at 10:30am, which means the doors will open at 9:30am and TGT must be present to assist. The Adult testing will begin at this time and immediately following the compulsory exam, the Little Tigers will do their sparring, then board break, and receive their belts. Which means, the Little Tigers must be present at 11am as well as the Juniors.

As soon as the Little Tigers finish, they will be dismissed and then the Junior Sparring will begin. The Little Tigers and their parents may stay to observe the rest of the competition.

After the Junior Sparring the Adults will begin. While the Adults are sparring, the Int/Adv Juniors will be dismissed to change into their Gotoogi uniforms.

After all sparring is completed, the Juniors will begin their Gotoogi. While the Juniors are competing, the Adults will be dismissed to change into their Gotoogi uniforms.

After they are all finished with the sparring and grappling, then they will all do their board breaks, starting with the Juniors. Finally, they will receive their belts if all goes well.

Testing Changes
Starting in February, 2009

These following changes will take effect:
            · The Saturday Belt Testing will now begin at 10:30am
            · Little Tigers & Juniors will continue to test on Friday, but they will perform their sparring on Saturday.
            · All Juniors & Adults will now be tested on their Gotoogi (grappling) on Saturday.
            · The New Testing Schedule:
                        10:30am                       Adult Belt Testing Begins
                        11:00am-11:30am        Little Tiger Sparring/Board Break/Belt Ceremony
                        11:30am-1:00pm          Junior Sparring
Adult Sparring (Juniors Change into Gotoogi Uniform)
Junior Gotoogi (Adults Change into Gotoogi Uniform)
                                                            Adult Gotoogi
                                                            Junior & Adult Board Breaking
                                                            Junior & Adult Belt Ceremony

Changes to Saturday Family Class and Weapon Fighting Class:

In Hwa Rang Do there are over 108 different weapons in 20 categories. Of course we cannot address all of them, but for now we would like to at least have our students be proficient with all types of swords and sticks.

The new name for Kumdo is now Gumtoogi for sword fighting and Bongtoogi for stick fighting. We will be competing with all different sizes of swords and all different sizes of sticks.

Therefore, we have changed our class schedule for Saturday. Everything will remain the same, but it will just be moved up 30 minutes to accommodate the additional class.

Saturday Class Schedule Changes
Starting Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009

To implement and better address our wide range of weaponry, we will be adding a Bontoogi (Stick Fighting) class to our existing Gumtoogi (Sword Fighting) class on Saturdays. This also means the family class will be moved up 30 minutes. All other classes will remain the same.

This is the New Schedule for Saturday family & weapon fighting (Mugi Daeryun) class:

                   10:15am-11:00am              Family Class
                   11:15am-12:00pm              Bongtoogi (Stick Fighting)
                   12:00pm-1:00pm                Gumtoogi (Sword Fighting)

Note: To begin with, all you need for the Bongtoogi class is your Jangbong (Staff) and Armor if you have it. Later you will require a pair of rattan batons (Jungbong).

Please remember these changes which will take effect in February. We feel this will complete our transition to truly being a complete, comprehensive system where our students will be proficient in three dynamic expressions of our art – kick/punch/throw fighting, submission fighting, weapon fighting.

Hwarang Forever,

Team Kwan Chang

Announcements for September:

BUDDY WEEK! - It's that time of the year again and we are attempting to set a new record of 50+ guests.  With your help I know we can do it.

Here's more detailed info about this fall's Buddy Week:

Buddy Week will be on Tuesday, Sept. 30th / Thursday,  Oct. 2nd / Satruday, Oct. 4th.
(Save the dates!)

First, the easy thing for anyone to do is to send an email to all your friends and family letting them know about the event and providing them with the following links for them to learn more about what you do here:

Buddy Week Flyer: http://www.completemartialart.com/buddyweek.html

Hwa Rang Do Videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/WCHwaRangDo

Free Hwa Rang Do Bootcamp: http://www.completemartialart.com

Remember our goal is to hit the 50+ guests mark and blow out the previous record of 46 guests from earlier this year.  This will need to be a group effort and you'll need to encourage each other, as some of us may be more shy than others with the invites. ;)

To help you with any email invites, we've drafted an email below, which you can simply cut & paste and easily forward to your friends.

Prizes for Most Guests

One of the interesting twist with this Buddy Week, is Master Lee has offered to give away hundreds of dollars in prizes to the Adult student and the Little Tiger/Junior student, who brings the most guests.

The adult student with the most guests will receive a FREE copy of the 14-DVD Fighting Styles Hwarangdo Extreme Takedowns set.  This set sells for $560, but will be given as a prize to our most spirited adult advocate.

The Little Tiger or Junior who invites the most guests will win a FREE 'Party at the Dojang', where they will be able to invite all their friends and family to party Hwa Rang Do Style! The party will include board breaking, games, prizes, piñata, birthday cake (or just cake if not birthday) and you'll be able to cut the cake with a real LIVE sword!

This is a $300-$400 value, and may be redeemed at any time by the winner.

Buddy Week Flyers: When YouTube Ins't Enough...

Out at the front desk of the dojang, you'll also see flyers and cards which you can hand out to your friends and family.

Email is great, but a personal invite accompanied by an email with all the Hwa Rang Do videos will always work best and shows to your friend that you care about them and the art you study.

Take as many flyers as you want.

Included in the flyer info is the web link for them to go learn more about Tae Soo Do and Hwa Rang Do, and watch some cool videos by Master Lee.

Gifts for Our Guests

Also, be sure to let your Adult guests know that by simply trying out a class during Buddy Week, they will receive a FREE pre-released DVD copy of Master Lee's new film, Hyung: The Ktown Chronicles.

This action packed film will be released in October on the internet, but they will receive a FREE physical DVD of the film almost 2 weeks before it is released to the world.

The film includes fight scenes featuring Master Lee flying and kicking his way to victory, demonstrating a deadly blur of techniques like only Master Lee can do.
All little tiger and junior guests will receive a FREE Hwa Rang Do t-shirt, so they can prove to their friends that they trained along side you at the dojang.

Everybody Wins

So whether it's our students, or guests, everybody will win and have an amazing time with Buddy Week!

The classes that week will also be taught in a special "seminar-style" format, which will provide a great workout and maximize the fun and energy for everyone.

Prizes will be given to our best advocates and gifts will be given to all our guests.
Remember, be loud and let's prepare to have train hard and have fun!

All TGT members, please be prepared to assist during the Tuesday, & Thursday evening classes and the Saturday 1pm class.

We'll be in touch soon with more info…

Hwarang,

The HwaRangDo.NET Team

Welcome to 2008 and welcome back to the Dojang.  Here are some announcements and schedule to give you a heads up so you can plan ahead.  We had to reschedule our Buddy Week to the first week of February - Tues 1/29, Thurs 1/31, & Sat 2/2.  It gives us more time to recruit and soon you will be receiving an e-mail to help you better promote our Buddy Week.  Thanks to our students' diligence, last fall Buddy Week was a great success and we are looking forward to repeating the same or better.

We also have our Newsletter online for your viewing and distribution.  Please send it out to your friends and family.

Lastly, here's the calendar for the next couple of months and you can pick up the master calendar 2008 at the dojang.  We have had a slow start - let's get back on track to achieving our new year's resolutions of becoming healthier and stronger of mind and body.
